In 1985, Mitsubishi and Chrysler teamed up to create the Diamond Star Motors partnership, and the first vehicle that the partnership produced was the Eclipse, which debuted in 1990. This front-driven sports coupe had a pair of nearly identical siblings in the Plymouth Laser and Eagle Talon. The Eclipse was the longest-running of the trio, as Plymouth dropped the Laser in 1995 and the Talon disappeared following the 1998 model year. The 2008 Eclipse came standard with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine that produced 162 horsepower, and a 3.0-liter V-6 with 260 horsepower available. These engines shared oil specifications.
Both the 2.4-liter and 3.8-liter engines in the 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse require standard 5W-20 engine oil. The total oil capacity for either engine is 4.5 quarts, including the oil filter.
