Mercedes and Chrysler produced the Chrysler Crossfire from 2004 to 2007, with Mercedes manufacturing 80 percent of its parts. It was a sports car, but was designed with traits of a roadster and coupe. The oil filter on the Crossfire is located on top of the engine and is designed as a cartridge. The vehicle holds about 8 1/2 quarts of oil.
Park the Crossfire on a level surface and set the parking brake.
Position the jack under the center of the frame and lift the vehicle. Place jack stands under both axles.
Remove the four air pillow mounting bolts with a socket wrench. Remove the air pillow.
Place a drip pan under the oil drain plug. Remove the oil drain plug with a socket wrench. Allow all of the oil to drain out.
Open the hood and support it with the hood prop. Remove the oil filter cartridge with a strap wrench. Remove the O-rings.
Rub a thin layer of motor oil on the new O-rings and put them in place. Put a new oil filter cartridge in position and tighten it by hand to ensure it seats smoothly. Finish tightening it with a strap wrench.
Install the oil drain plug and tighten it with a socket wrench.
Open the oil fill cap. Add about 8 quarts of oil. Check the dip stick. Add oil as necessary until the dip stick reads that the proper oil level has been reached.
