The headlights in your 2001 Lexus IS 300 feature replaceable bulbs, saving you from having to replace the entire headlight assembly when a bulb fails. Buy a No. 9005 bulb from a Lexus dealer or auto parts store so you can change the bulb at home and save the expense of hiring a technician.
Open the hood of the car and rest it on the support bar. Reach behind the headlight assembly and pull the rubber gasket straight back to expose the bulb assembly.
Pry the metal retaining clip back away from the bulb using a flat-bladed screwdriver. Pull the bulb socket out of the headlight assembly.
Pull the bulb out of the socket. Press the new bulb into place. Insert the bulb into the light assembly until the retaining clip locks it in place.
Push the rubber gasket back into place to seal the rear of the bulb assembly. Repeat the process on the opposite side, if needed.
