Replacing the air filter in a Dodge Ram is one of the easiest maintenance procedures. Clean air filters extend the life of the engine and help a car get better gas mileage because the engine does not have to work as hard with a clean filter. Air filters should be changed every 30,000 miles unless the vehicle is driven in extreme conditions, then it should be changed every 3,000 miles.
Turn the car off and leave it off while you are changing the filter. Open and prop the hood of the car.
Locate the air filter; it is a black plastic box. Look on the passenger side of the car near the windshield, the air filter housing box will be right by the side frame.
Open the filter housing unit by unclip or unscrewing the fasteners. Remove the lid from the box.
Take the filter out of the container and discard it. Clean out any remaining debris left in the Dodge's housing box.
Put the new filter in the box. Use a K&N filter number K33332247 for a 2003 to 2008 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500. Find the type of air filter you need for older models at your local auto supply store or online (see Resources).
Replace the lid on the Dodge Ram air filter housing box. Secure the lid in place by reattaching the clips or screws.
