Rated excellent for reliability by Consumer Reports, Toyota's 2004 Tundra equipped with the 4.7-liter engine ranked as the top choice in July, 2004 among full-size pickups in its class. The 4.7-liter V-8 -- standard equipment in the SR5 and LTD models -- boasts 240-horsepower and 315 foot-pounds of torque at 3,400 rpm.
The recommended schedule for normal and severe service is 5,000 miles for the engine oil and filter. An oil change that includes the filter requires 6 1/2 quarts of oil -- without the filter requires 6 quarts. Toyota recommends SAE 5W−30 oil for good fuel economy and reliable cold-weather starting. If 5W−30 is not available, 10W−30 may be used for a single oil change, but should be replaced with 5W-30 at the next oil change.
