Lowering the spare on a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado is a simple task that takes a matter of minutes. The spare tire on this American-made vehicle is under the bed. This model uses a ratcheting system that you engage with a tool from the back of the vehicle, meaning you shouldn't have to crawl under the bed to lower the spare.
Retrieve the tools stored with the jack from under the passenger seat in the cab of the truck.
Connect the two jack handle extensions. Insert the open end, or hoist end, through the access near the license plate in the rear bumper.
Push the end of the extension securely onto the hoist shaft.
Place the square hole in the wheel wrench onto the end of the extension.
Grip the wheel wrench and turn the extension counterclockwise, continuing until the spare tire reaches the ground. Pull the tire from under the truck.
