In a perfect world we would all have one tow rig and one wheeling rig (OK, in perfect world we would have multiple of each, but for now let’s say one of each). However, in the real world most trucks have double duty or more. This requires the ability to work and play out of the same machine. We have one such truck, and we found a simple upgrade to help it work during the week and play when we want.
At full droop the axle can drop away from the bag.The airbags on our ’10 Ram 3500 are great for the added load of a heavy trailer, and trust us: This truck has a trailer behind it 50 percent or more of the time. One disadvantage of airbags is that they limit wheel travel because they can only flex so far since they are attached to both the frame at the top and axle at the bottom.
Daystar recently introduce one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” products, an airbag cradle that holds the airbag stable when under load but allows the axle to drop away as needed for better off-road performance. We swapped in a set in under an hour and found a new flexy suspension without losing weight carrying ability.
