The introduction of Ford's new 2.3L Turbo charged four-cylinder powerplant has given a fresh outlook on performance and fuel economy for Mustang enthusiasts. And with the aid of a turbocharger, horsepower fans now have a new platform to brag about.
The tuning wizards at DiabloSport have developed an EcoBoost-specific inTune programmer to unleash its potential. With the preinstalled dyno tested programs, DiabloSport offers improved throttle response, optimized drivability, and bottom-end horsepower.
Along with the performance gains, the inTune programmer also has a host of other features, including the ability to log OBD-II data, along with checking and clearing DTC codes. But that’s just the beginning; this potent little programmer can also allow you to adjust a variety of parameters, including the rev limiter, shift firmness for automatics, spark timing, idle rpm, cooling fan control, and speed limiter. You can even calibrate the speedo for gear ratio and tire size changes. That’s a lot of control at a car-guy-friendly price. Follow along and see how you can change the attitude of your EcoBoost with an easy plug-in upgrade.
With our S550 EcoBoost pony secured on the dyno, we were ready to get our baseline numbers. The factory stock 2.3L EcoBoost produced 243.3 hp and 296 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. To begin, simply connect the supplied DiabloSport inTune connector into the factory service port, which is located underneath the driver-side dash. Turn the key to the on position, but do not start the car. Follow the prompts on the screen and install your desired tune. The easy-to-read touchscreen makes the installation a breeze. Once complete, you will be prompted to disconnect the cable from the factory service port—you’re finished!Final Dyno Results
Once the new inTune program was in place, it was time to check out the gains.
With 91-octane fuel in the tank and the premium tune, the finals numbers showed 272.7 horsepower and 319 lb-ft. That’s a gain of 29 hp and 23 lb-ft of torque for just a few minutes’ work.
