With Stage 1 of our Scion FR-S complete, the staff here at Import Tuner with the guys at Super Street and Modified magazines wanted to take the car even further. We really wanted to please our readers and build the FR-S that everyone is dreaming about buying and building. We just couldn't stop at minor parts, wheels, and a lip kit. For Stage 2 of our collab buildup, we wanted to go all-out with our Scion.
Divvying up the fun, Super Street will take care of the interior and wheels. Modified will be handling everything engine and performance related. And last but not least, Import Tuner will be doing the exterior. We've never joined forces with our coworkers before on a vehicle build so it should be very interesting to see how the three brands mix.
Sure, there's a ton of body kits and aero parts out there already for the FR-S. But there is one particular body kit that has everyone's jaw dropping. Yes, it's the Greddy X Rocket Bunny widebody kit. It's the wildest kit, everyone loves it, and we wanted it too. With a quick call to Kenji Sumino at Greddy (distributor of the kit) we were guaranteed to have the first one to ever hit the States.
But why stop at just getting the kit here? While the bodywork and aero was being worked on at The Shop Automotive in Culver City, CA, we had Kei Miura come over himself and give us pointers with the installation. Kei isn't just the owner of TRA Kyoto, he designed all the Rocket Bunny kits you've seen in the past. He also designed the notorious Ben Sopra R35 GT-R kit and many, many other that we can't legally tell you. Let's just say behind closed doors he told us who else has contracted him in Japan, and the list includes just about every who's who in Japan. It's not called Top Resin Art for nothing. From body kits to race team aero to wheel manufacturers, they all seek Kei's design skills. See our video and interview of Kei Miura's trip to the United States at Importtuner.com
| Me, Kei Miura, and ScottAs far as color goes, we really wanted the car to stand out at SEMA. But on the other hand we didn't feel like this car needed pearl or heavy flakes of metallic in its paint. A flat, neutral color is still pretty cool, so that's what we were looking at. Solid white or black is typically my favorite color on a car, but we can't do that here. We needed color that screamed: "This car's been completely painted." The only color that the FR-S doesn't come in is green, brown, and yellow. So green it was. With a bit of inspiration from British Racing Green and a ton of hours mixing colors we came up with our special blend of mean green paint.
Stay tuned: We're going to be doing even more to our FR-S in the months to come. There's no end to this project. And don't forget to check out Super Street and Modified for the coverage of their involvement on this car.

The kit includes instructions, new reverse light, and all of the necessary hardware. We ended up using custom stainless Torx head screws for our kit.

Here, Kei shows us where the new lights go. These are optional items that he doesn’t typically include in the kit. He suggested mounting them from behind the FRP for a better fit.
You’ve really got to taste a custom paintjob to see how it digests.
The doors, trunk, and all of the windows were removed for a proper paintjob by The Shop.
Kei brought us some LED lights to be used with our new rear bumper. These are dual filament so they can be used for driving and/or brake lights.
