One of the latest supercharger innovations for the large Ford trucks equipped with the V-10 is a quiet system available from Vortech. Vortechs V-2 SQ system produces substantial horsepower gains that have been dyno-tested to show a 100hp improvement and 80 lb-ft of extra torque. Although Vortechs superchargers arent extremely noisy to begin withthe extra whine of the gears is desirable to somethe SQ uses a helical-cut gear design to reduce the overall noise while maintaining its full power potential. Advanced O-ring sealing also helps reduce the friction of the V-2 design, making it a more efficient supercharger for this application.
The V-10 system is also available with an optional aftercooler that decreases air inlet temperatures to increase horsepower. Vortechs testing has shown that the addition of the aftercooler to its V-10 system has delivered an extra 48 hp. The supercharger system itself is simple to install and can be done by a novice enthusiast with a good set of tools. As an example of how the system goes together, we looked on as one was installed on a crew cab F-250 that will be used to tow a race car.
